Ask the expert

Which type of mower is right for you?

The right choice of mower is primarily dependent on two key factors: your property terrain and the amount of obstacles in the mowing area.

Terrain

Ride-on mowers are well-suited to all types of terrain and can handle slopes and challenging hills.

A challenging terrain would require a mower that is purpose-built to handle steep hills, and this includes a powerful engine, larger transmissions, larger tyres, lower centre of gravity and most importantly, traction assist and four-wheel drive feature.

Zero-turn mowers are primarily designed for terrains that are mostly flat. They are not recommended for steep slopes or uneven terrain due to its increased risk of tipping over.

Obstacles

Ride-on mowers have a larger turning radius and are less suited to areas with lots of trees and obstacles.

The primary advantage of zero-turn mowers is its manoeuvrability. They can turn on a dime and mow around obstacles with ease.

Steering mechanism

Ride-on mowers have a conventional steering wheel control.

Zero-turn mowers have two control levers and will require both hands to operate at all times.
